Fig Films is an independent film production company based in Tel-Aviv, Israel. Founded in 2001, the company develops produces and directs documentary films for the international market. Fig Films are the director and producer team of Ruthie Shatz and Adi Barash.
Diamonds and Rust (2001) marks their documentary debut, telling the story of modern slavery aboard a diamond mining ship of the cost of Namibia. The film won several international prizes including The 2001 SCAM Prix and The 2001 Golden Gate Award. Diamonds and Rust was screened on numerous TV stations including ARTE, YLE, TVO, RTF, Sundance Channel and more.
In 2003 they completed their second film
Garden. The film tells the story of the close friendship of two Arab male prostitutes, and was screened internationally on Several TV stations including ARTE, Sundance Channel, YLE, TV2, VRT, TVO, Channel 8-Noga Communications.
Garden was screened in over 70 film festivals including Sundance, IDFA, Yamagata, Hotdocs and Locarno. The film has won several awards including: Best Documentary, New-Fest / Best Documentary, Turin GayLes / Best Director, Best Film, Madrid GayLes / Award of Excellence at Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival / Honorable Mention, Seville International Film Festival & Special Mention at the Seattle International GayLes Film Festival.
